The International
Lawn Tennis Club of Canada.
The Objects
of the Club are:
a. To
promote, by social union and match-play, good fellowship among tennis players
who have represented this country abroad as members of touring tennis teams or
who are or have been active in international tennis competition.
b. To
develop, encourage and maintain the highest standard of sportsmanship and
understanding among tennis players of all nations.
c. To assist
in the welcome and hospitality of tennis teams and players visiting Canada from
abroad.
d. To
provide members with information of tennis clubs and facilities in overseas
countries.
Adherence to
these objects are considered an important part of being a member of the ILTC of
Canada. Active members are also expected
to maintain a reasonable standard of play for their age.
Example of Activities:
Annual match
between USIC and ILTC of Canada. This
match is held annually in early June. In
even years the match has been held at Piping Rock Country Club on grass courts. In odd years the ILTC hosts the Americans in
Toronto. Senior men’s teams and women’s
teams of variable number participate (the home team matches however many of the
away team are prepared to travel to the match.
In recent years both clubs have been unable to field an Open team. It is hoped to add a West coast annual
match and a in Florida match with the USIC.
Matches in
Europe. The club usually arranges one
tour of one or two day matches with two countries in Europe each year. Some European countries regularly host team
tournaments which IC members can participate in (eg. Spain over 45 men’s
doubles)
IC Weeks or
Other Team events. IC clubs around the
world host various types of team competitions in which Canada can enter
teams. Some are more formal than others. ILTC of Canada will be hosting a team event
in early September 2014 to celebrate 40 years of the club.
ILTC also
organizes team events either within the club (Wodzicki Cup Ontario v Quebec) or
against local clubs.
As a member
of the ILTC you will have the opportunity over the years to meet and play with
some of the greatest tennis people and in locations which would not be possible
without the invitation of members from other countries.
Membership Fee:
The annual membership fee is $75.00.
The fees collected are used to cover the administrative
costs of the club and to defray the costs of hosting visiting teams for certain
aspects of the events. (usually a formal
dinner for the visiting teams). Members
are expected to pay a match fee and cover the costs of their meals when playing
in home matches. When playing in away
matches, members are expected to pay their own travel expenses and a
appropriate share of a entry fee which may cover some of the events and
accommodation costs. This will be
specific to each event and information should be available as to the amounts
involved at time of sign up.
It is hoped that when the ILTC of Canada is hosting teams
that members participating in the match will also participate in any formal
dinners. Members who are not able to
play are welcome to attend the dinners.
